Temple Wallet

Temple is available as a browser-extension wallet and as a mobile app on both Android and iOS. The browser-extension wallet is very similar to MetaMask, so it is an easy transition for many. Some people prefer it to Kukai and some prefer Kukai. Both are very good and are both susceptible to issues during popular mints. The jury is out on which one works better more of the time.
To install Temple I recommend you visit , where they provide a link to every possible version (desktop and mobile). The wallet currently works with most desktop browsers, as does the mobile wallet.
Temple has the ability to be kept unlocked, meaning you do not need to enter your password for every transaction. It is a useful function during a popular mint when you need to approve transactions as fast as possible (to reduce the chance of missing out). Of course, good security dictates that you leave it locked at all other times!
Two main factors affect the likelihood of a transaction being successful; gas price and speed of node. Both are addressed below.
If you need to increase the chances of a successful transaction, you can edit the gas fee field. This is only needed when the blockchain is busy and you need to ensure the transaction is handled fast e.g. during a popular mint.
Your wallet will usually suggest a default fee of around 0.0009tez. This won't work for popular mints though. Changing the fee to 0.5tez will give you success in most cases. See the image below for how to manually change it.
There have been some popular releases in early 2022 where demand far outweighed supply and people used as much as 70tez to secure a piece of art. Crazy. In those releases, the median gas fee was 10tez.
You cannot (currently) set a default gas fee on Temple. For each transaction, the wallet will provide the recommended fee, which is sufficient most times, but during a popular mint where time is critical, manually changing the gas can severely hinder your chances of minting a piece of art.
Your wallet connects to a node (Temple refers to it as a network) to conduct its transaction, but unfortunately, some nodes can become busy and slow your transaction down. To avoid the lucky-dip of what node your wallet selects, you can instead direct it to the one run by fxhash. This was created to bypass public node slow downs and was recently made available to the fxhash community. It should be faster when purchasing on fxhash, with fewer slow-downs. It can also be used when purchasing on objkt, Versum and other tezos sites, although you may not see the speed benefits that you do when on fxhash
Occasionally Temple will have some issues. The main ones seen when using fxhash and their fixes are:
Warning! Transaction is likely to fail - several reasons this may show:
You don't have enough tez to cover the total cost of the purchase
The item you are trying to buy is no longer available. At the blockchain level, it will know that the transaction cannot work, so it gives you the warning, even though the website looks to still have it for sale
You need to unsync/disconnect your wallet and re-sync/re-connect again. On the fxhash site, where this error sometimes shows, you need to unsync from the site, not by using the wallet. An image of this is at the bottom of the page.
'Failed' status - not enough tez in your balance or the gas was too low (common on very popular drops).
Pending status - you will always see this at first. If you keep seeing it after several minutes, there could be an issue. If it has been pending for a lot longer, it is likely that the transaction will fail. You should be able to continue sending transactions. If you cannot, clear the cache (see step 2) and then, if it still persists, try changing the node. I recommend using the fxhash node, so in this case, simply switch it back to the main Tezos mainnet. See the image below for an example.
To redirect your Temple wallet to the fxhash node (RPC), follow the directions in the on fxhash. It is far more simple to do than it may seem. You cannot change nodes (RPC) on the Kukai wallet at this time.
If you want or need to import your wallet from another company (eg AirGap) into Temple, then have a look at Temple's YouTube . It is likely that your wallet is here. The videos are easy to follow.
Your tokens - listed under 'collectibles' do not show up. Much like the old adage ' have you tried turning it on and off again', it is recommended you clear the cache. Temple has an excellent guide .
